Picralima nitida (Akuamma) seeds and fruit pericarp (rind) (cuts and powder) are available for export.

This West-Central African tree has been used in ethnomedicine to manage pain, diabetes, fever, malaria, jaundice, dysmenorrhoea, pneumonia, sexual weakness and gastrointestinal disorders.

The seeds and fruit pericarp are very rich in indole alkaloids such as akuammine, akauammidine, akuammicine, akuammigine, akuammicine and pseudo-akuammigine. Other phytoconstituents include picracine, picraline, picramitine, picraphylline etc., and polyphenols.

These compounds are potent analgesic, antitumour, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antimalarial agents.
